4 Day Desert Journey from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga
📅 Day 1: Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley
Embark on a 4-day journey into the heart of Morocco’s wild Sahara, traveling from Marrakech to the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga. This extended adventure allows you to explore at a relaxed pace, discover ancient kasbahs, lush valleys, and experience the untouched beauty of the desert far from the crowds.
Your journey begins with a morning departure from Marrakech in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle with your driver-guide.
Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with scenic stops for photos and panoramic views. Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Ben Haddou, a historic ksar renowned for its traditional earthen architecture.
After lunch, travel through Ouarzazate and along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Pass through the Valley of Roses before arriving in the Dades Valley.
Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel or riad.
📅 Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Draa Valley → Zagora
After breakfast, depart toward the dramatic Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls create a spectacular natural setting.
Continue your journey south through desert landscapes and traditional villages, reaching the lush Draa Valley, famous for its palm groves and ancient kasbahs.
Arrive in Zagora in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel or riad.
📅 Day 3: Zagora → M’Hamid → Erg Chigaga Desert
After breakfast, travel to M’Hamid, the last village before the vast Sahara begins.
From here, leave the paved roads behind and embark on an off-road 4x4 adventure across diverse desert landscapes, including rocky plains and sand dunes.
Arrive at the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga, the largest and most untouched in Morocco.
Enjoy a camel trek at sunset or relax at your desert camp while taking in the peaceful surroundings.
Dinner will be served under the stars, followed by traditional Berber music and stargazing. Overnight in a desert camp (standard or luxury option available).
📅 Day 4: Erg Chigaga → Foum Zguid → Taznakht → Marrakech
Wake early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara dunes.
After breakfast, depart the desert by 4x4, crossing wild desert terrain toward Foum Zguid. Continue via Taznakht, known for its Berber carpets.
Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon or evening, marking the end of your unforgettable desert journey.
